The Tower Of Aries

Post  Whoami on Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:12 am

Yes, that's the name of the game I am working on. At the moment it is about 30-40 minutes in length to get everything (for me, but I know where everything is). The MAIN focus is on the Tower of Aries, but there is plenty more to do. Unfortunately everything is fairly basic(I.e. Fishing, you press enter on water and you could get a fish, or nothing, Mostly RTP graphics, some imported music, nothing like Final Fantasy, some Lufia 2, Chrono Trigger etc.).
*edit2* Without realizing, all my battle characters are from Tales of games.(Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Phantasia, etc.) Amazing isn't it?
This is an earlier description of it:

The Tower of Aries.
A RM2k3 game that is mainly RPG but with some Puzzle aspects...
It's currently just under 30 minutes(But then again, I know where everything is...),
has a few features to distract you from the main plot, if there is one at this point (Fishing, recruiting crew for your ship, fighting pirates to become the best, like the hunter system in Rogue Galaxy, except instead of killing normal enemies/special bosses, you intercept other ships and kill the captain. Still working on it though).
I won't use an airship for various reasons, being cliched is one.
Well I suppose it does have some cliches, but what game doesn't?
I put some light hearted humor in it, just to lighten the mood a bit. Very Happy

I'm a bit stuck, on one of the dungeons, can't think for the life of me for what to do next. Though this isn't very lively now, I'm hoping for some suggestions. It's a water-ish cave. It's mostly a puzzle. Battles wouldn't help the area much, since you could get there at any point in the game.

Now onto another feature I am considering. A hard mode. You must get to the top of the Tower of Aries, with the weakest character. There would be no merit to this(Or at least not much, maybe an alternate storyline?), just to say that you were able to complete hard mode.

So if anyone is there, suggestions/your thoughts/anything I can do to make it better with what little knowledge you have of this game?

*Edit* I'll take that into consideration.

It sounds interesting...Maybe you could have a puzzle in the water cave to make a bridge...to get accross the water in it...

I'm considering making a hint system in my puzzles, but it's expensive...
I have put in the bridge idea, however, due to my limited resources, It's not a conventional bridge...(Creativity, Huzzah!)

I'm about a bit less than 40 or 50%, but working on features all the time. Since I'm getting better at designing my game, the beginning is more primitive than later on. It all works, however there is one problem so far, I can't, for the life of me figure out how to move boulders, without them glitching (Otherwise the cave is all finished).

I'm also considering where I should put the game when I'm done...

*edit* I've created a plot! As far as I know, it's original! Very Happy

When you are done I'll make a Completed Projects section. Then we can move it there. Also what do you think of our new banner:

It's nice. Not really sure what it's going to be for, other than the obvious maintenance...

Well, I'm getting more and more done each day! I'm not sure when I'll be done though. IF it's not out in a few months, expect it to be HUGE. Maybe... (Size doesn't mean quality though...) Maybe I should post what I have done now? Or put it on Filefront or something?
*edit* well, what do you think?

Agh... Morale is low. I'm not getting much done on it. I will not abandon it. I've gotten way too far. I'm getting maybe one or two maps a week. I'm not sure, but if anyone would, post suggestions of what you want to see in this game. If I like it, I'll most likely put it in.

Well... Production has HALTED... Literally. Nothing is happening. All I'm doing is just messing with pointless events and battle animations... I'm improving on my mapping =D, a good thing, I can see SO many things I have done wrong! It's very surprising!

Anyway, I'm considering putting up images, so yes, it could definitely different from what you imagine! In fact, probably worse... The longer I go on without working at it, I can see where it is majorly flawed! Maybe not mapping, but maybe in plot, or in graphics! It's quite annoying!

Anyway, still waiting for them suggestions!

Re: The Tower Of Aries

Well, since I don't wish for this forum to die, I am posting. In this topic. Again.

Anyway, I have decided to nearly completely remake The Tower of Aries. I am making my own custom graphics for the charsets, and possibly borrowing some Battleset ideas, since I am no good at making those normally...

I am saving a few things though! Like the title Cloud made, some music, some of my items (Phoenix Up =D) ,the "logo", monsters, bosses, etc.

I am adding a religion to it, as to not take sides in any religion, or to discriminate. Okay, so I am making fun of Jesus a little.

I am making it longer, improving on the storyline, and in general, making it a lot better than it originally was!

And you know what? I am actually making a lot of progress! Well for me anyway. I've started on the 18th of November, and I've made the first two characters, the first character's full battleset, and a bit more than half of the second character's!

And you know what else? I am still open for suggestions! I am much better at making things in RM2K3, so I be able to incorporate more ideas into it, be it for puzzles, minigames, maps, bosses, cameos (If you really want one), etc. I am really optimistic about this, since I actually have a great deal of inspiration for it!

Also, I really don't want this forum to die. It's so young...
